The Exhaust Pipe
Step 01
Fit the Exhaust Tailpipe over the pipe end of the Muffler Top, as shown:
Secure the Exhaust Tailpipe in place with one (1) KP screw:
Step 02
Retrieve your Center Undertray/Exhaust Pipe assembly from the previous phase. Secure the flat end of the Exhaust Pipe to this end of the Muffler Top with one (1) EP screw, as shown:
Step 03
Connect the Rear Undertray to the Center Undertray so they interlock, as shown:
Secure the Exhaust Pipe to the Rear Undertray from above with three (3) DP screws:
Flip this assembly over and secure the Rear Undertray to the Center Undertray with three (3) EP screws, as shown:
Step 04
Retrieve your 300 SL and carefully turn it upside down on a soft cloth. Fit the assembled undertrays to the car, as shown:
The front end of the Exhaust Pipe should fit through this cutout in the Front Undertray:
Secure the Center Undertray to the Front Undertray with three (3) EP screws:
Secure the sides of the Center Undertray to the Rocker Panels with ten (10) BM screws, five on each side.
Getting these holes to line up required squeezing the sides of the metal Body together, which takes quite a bit of effort. Get some help if needed. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:
Secure the Rear Undertray to the Main Body Shell with four (4) BM screws:
Step 05
Secure the Muffler Top to the Main Chassis with two (2) MM screws, as shown:
Thoughts
Screwing the sides of the Center Undertray to the Rocker Panels was much more difficult than it should have been. I was literally squeezing the car against my chest while adding the screws. Anyway, the undertrays are now in place. I will miss seeing you, tubular frame!
