Build
The Left Sill Rocker Panel and Trim Rail
I did not install my Side Mirror back in Phase 75. Since we had to turn the car upside down many times between then and now, I did not want to break it off. Now is the time to finally get it attached to the Main Body Shell.
Fit the Side Mirror to the matching recess on the left front fender:
Secure the Side Mirror into place from below with one (1) HP screw:
Step 01
Retrieve your 300 SL and carefully turn it upside down on a soft cloth. Fit the Left Sill Rocker Panel to the left side between the wheels, inside the Main Body Shell, and align the screw holes as shown:
Secure the Left Sill Rocker Panel into place with four (4) BM screws, as shown.
This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:
Step 02
Push the pins of the Left Sill Trim into the matching holes between the Left Sill Rocker Panel and the Main Body Shell, as shown.
This Left Sill Trim should only fit one way and needs to be gently, but firmly pressed into place. When it is correctly installed, the ends match up to the curvature of the wheel openings and the gaps on the back of the Left Sill Trim line up to the BM screws we just installed:
Thoughts
Adding this rocker panel makes the car appear to sit lower and gives it that ‘sporty’ look! We will do this process again in the next phase.
